Scapegoating Women on Cinco de Mayo

Misogyny IS Prejudice. Misogyny IS Discrimination. Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo. Yesterday was also the Kentucky Derby. Horse Racing. Who is the GENIUS that is SCAPEGOATING WOMEN with all of the RACING around here???

Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the country. Yesterday's Cinco de Mayo Celebration around here took a look back at one of the most disgraceful chapters in Houston History: the 1977 Case of Jose Compos Torres.

Yesterday, the still grieving family held the 41st Commemoration Walk beginning at 4800 Canal Street.

Let that sink for a minute.

On the 5th of May - a peaceful protest of Racism - or more accurately Police Brutality - & clearly COMPLAINING about the TRANSLATION OF THE NUMBER 5 "Cinco," started at 4800 Canal Street taking a SEXIST, MISOGYNISTIC SWING AT WOMEN.

IS this OK???

No - it is NOT OK.

While clearly racisist, while clearly a case of Polic Brutality, while it did CAUSE RACE RIOTS in the streets of Houston, NONE OF THE OFFICERS INVOLVED WERE WOMEN.

SEXISM HURTS EVERY BIT AS MUCH AS RACISM & is exactly the same: DISCRIMINATION.
